A high-ranking Russian military figure has been killed following an detonation in Moscow, according to an investigative body.
The incident occurred on Monday morning when an bomb placed beneath a vehicle exploded, resulting in the death of Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov.
Sarvarov served as the head of the armed forces' operational training department.
Investigators indicated that one theory under investigation suggests the possible involvement of Ukrainian intelligence services. To date, Ukraine has not issued a comment.
Scene of the Attack
Personnel have been sent to the site, which is said to be in a south district of the metropolis.
Accounts indicate the blast happened in a vehicle lot near a residential building.
Series of Incidents
Since the onset of the full-scale conflict in Ukraine, a series of Russian military commanders have been subjected to assaults within Moscow.
This new event comes after other high-profile incidents, for instance:
- General Yaroslav Moskalik was killed in a automobile blast in Moscow earlier this year.
- General Igor Kirillov died in late 2024 when a device concealed on a scooter was triggered from afar.
While a Ukrainian source in the past linked Kirillov's death to Ukraine's security service, such assertions are rarely formally acknowledged as a matter of policy.
The war has been marked by covert operations moving into the streets of the Russian capital.
The probe into General Sarvarov's death is still ongoing.
