Battlefield 6's Relaxed Game Mode Ignites Intense Discussions Regarding Bots, XP Rewards, and Queue Times
Recently, the game developers introduced a new playlist called Casual Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode mirrors the standard Breakthrough setup but features several key changes:
- Each team has just 8 real players, with the remaining made up of 32 bots.
- Actions performed by human gamers grant complete experience points, while AI activities provide lower rewards.
- Only two locations can be played: Siege of Cairo and Empire State map.
- Elements like Player tags, achievements, and career stat updates are disabled.
So essentially, this mode lives up to its title: it's a laid-back take of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume it's a good idea, since it provides more options for players seeking different ways to have fun with the game. However, if video games has shown one thing, it's that not everyone will be happy. Which is to say, a lot of BF6 fans are mad.
Player Reactions: From Fury to Praise
"People want real players. Don't repeat the mistakes of your competitors," reads a response to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking idea," says a different user. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player remarks, "I have no idea where we are headed with this title," while another details everything they consider to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We do not require this bot mode."
However, amid the criticism, some gamers sharing how much they're liking the new mode. "It's enjoyable to practice, human participants prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's quite laid-back," reads a forum post. "The community fails to see that there are players who actually go outside and don't play this title 24/7. Let them find a middle ground," adds a different comment. One reply via social media clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is perfect for me," and another praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
Constructive Criticisms and Player Input
All that said, players have valid points to complain about the new mode. Some users have pointed out that it will make queue times more extended for other modes due to the large amount of playlists currently available. On a similar note, certain regions often face mostly bots in the current modes. Additionally, it appears somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a required amount of human gamers, even though it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.
Lastly, a major complaints is that a previous feature was promised to provide complete rewards, even against bots, but that got canned when they tried to eliminate bot farms from the system. Thus Casual Breakthrough feels like the player base meeting them halfway, as per a Reddit comment. A different user describes this mode as the devs "making a mistake significantly, I experienced so much fun in the first couple of days, what prompted them to adjust it?"
Future Prospects: Adjustments Be Made?
If Battlefield Studios has proven anything so far with Battlefield 6, it is that they're listening and responding to player input. Assignments being too difficult were adjusted very quickly, as did the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, if their data indicates this recent mode is underperforming to their standards, they will not hesitate to change it again.
