Ex- British Broadcasting Corporation Consultants Undergo MPs' Questioning In the Wake of Allegations of Bias in Unauthorized Memo
We start with questions from Conservative MP the panel's head, that oversees the group.
She opens by providing background to the leaked memorandum prepared by Michael Prescott and printed in a daily publication.
"It is not my wish for the BBC leaning this way or that way, I simply desire it balanced, unbiased and equitable," he declares.
Upon being questioned if he thinks the British Broadcasting Corporation is structurally prejudiced, he replies: "Absolutely not. Let's be clear, numerous aspects the BBC does is exceptional - both factual and fictional shows."
Nevertheless, he states: "There is significant effort that must be undertaken at the British Broadcasting Corporation."
A further ex-adviser BBC consultant interviewed by the committee, Caroline Daniel, states she regards the British Broadcasting Corporation very seriously and that it operates a "persistent practice and active debate" on dynamic and complex subjects.
"Whether the BBC was ready to have a genuine dialogue and exchange and act accordingly?" she questions. "In my view, yes they were."
