The Blue Jays Claim Fall Classic Meeting Against the Dodgers
Springer was instrumental for the Houston Astros securing the championship in 2017.
Canada's MLB team earned a spot in their initial Fall Classic following 1993 by overcoming the Seattle Mariners in the final game seven of the AL Championship Series.
Down by two runs, outfielder George Springer delivered a three-run blast in the seventh, leading the sole Canadian team in Major League Baseball to a four games to three triumph in the seven-game series. Next up are the defending champions, who are the reigning title, in the upcoming Fall Classic.
"It's incredible for this squad, Toronto, Canada," said Springer, an integral part of the Houston Astros team that claimed the 2017 World Series. "It's truly an incredible feeling."
Springer has now hit twenty-three playoff homers, making him third all-time behind Manny Ramirez (29) and Altuve (twenty-seven).
"It's hard to imagine anyone else in the world that I'd choose in that spot other than Springer with his October magic," noted manager John Schneider.
Seattle, who had led the series 2-0 and 3-2, continue to be the only MLB franchise yet to make an appearance in a Fall Classic.
Wilson stated "there's no question that it's going to sting" following his side's defeat at Rogers Centre, but praised their work in the campaign.
"It's a special team. Sadly that we had to come out on the wrong side of this one," he added.
The Blue Jays won the championship on both previous visits in the early 90s, and will host the Dodgers in the opener on this Friday.
